Custom Orthotic/Splint Fabrication
Following an injury to the upper extremity, your doctor may recommend that you see an Occupational Therapist or Certified Hand Therapist to fabricate a custom orthotic, commonly referred to as a splint or brace, to assist in your rehabilitation. An orthotic or splint may be used to aid in the support of a joint, tendon, bone, or ligament during the healing process. Custom orthotics may also be made as an addition to regular therapy to further assist in increasing range of motion, decreasing pain, and increasing independence in your day-to-day life. Being custom fit to each patient, your occupational therapist can ensure comfort and compliance with your individualized orthosis, unlike pre-fabricated splints found at the drug store.
